A Japanese Submarine shelled targets in and near the #Ellwood Oilfields in California; the first time the U.S. Mainland had been attacked since 1812. Damage was minimal, but triggered the #WestCoastInvasion Scare, and served as a pretext for the #Internment of Japanese Americans.
