Thank you, Fenland Citizen! You took the criticism on the chin and cleaned up that headline and intro. Sharon is now no longer "elderly" – she's a vigorous 60-year-old once again, aiming to revive the fortunes of the #TheFalconInn at #Whittlesey
#FenlandCitizen
How rude - calling her "elderly"! Probably written by a 20-year-old trainee. Sharon, the new licensee, is in the prime of her life who's well on her way to reviving this pub's fortunes | Fenland Citizen | 19 February 2026:

Some more #Strawbear #Whittlesey yesterday...
Two people, dressed head to toe in straw, lead a procession along the road. A brightly adorned crowd follows them, carrying folk instruments and a banner.
A closer view of the straw-costumed bear, dancing vigorously among the crowd.
Onlookers gathered outside a traditional British pub, waiting for the bears and their retinue of followers to make an appearance.
The banner carried at the front of the procession is titled "Whittlesey Straw Bear". It features a cartoon image of the dancing bear and reads "Cambridgeshire, England" at the bottom.
The #Whittlesey #StrawBear is a quaint yet somewhat #pagan custom in a small town near where I live, in which a man and a boy dress up in straw costumes and parade through the streets, accompanied by various #Morris and #Molly dancers, and a few thousand […]

Bear necessities... #Strawbear #Whittlesey today
Me at #Whittlesey Scout hut yesterday - presenting a cheque to 4 members of their Explorers section, a gift from the #FenlandOddfellows, the friendship organisation I belong to. A drop in the ocean, but it will go a bit towards the £13,960 costs of their trip to the #WorldScoutJamboree in 2027.
To kick off Strawbear, a few of us visited some local brownie packs to give them a hand with their folklore interest badge!

A colour photograph of a junior football club's playing field, with a bank running through it, away into the distance.
#Whittlesey JFC's 'Field of Dreams' sits astride the Fen Causeway Roman Road (Margery 25 & 38) - plainly visible as the bank running straight to the trees, with the brickworks' chimneys beyond. Most atmospheric on an early morning visit last year. #RomanRoadsFriday #Cambridgeshire

A hand holding up a broom with the letter K carved into it. No one knows the significance of this strange sigil. Perhaps it prevents the Great Old Ones whisking the dancer off to Kadath in the Cold Waste if they drop a broom? There is a Cotswold Morris side in the background. They wear red shirts, black and white baldricks and black trousers and are called Clausentum Morris. They weren't bad, actually. But they weren't keen to be seen associating with the likes of Mepal Molly. Can't say I blame them, to be honest.

Good morning👋, National #HotTea day in U.S. apparently. ...love a cup of tea 🙂. Yesterday had a lovely day in winter sunshine 🌞 at #Whittlesey #StrawBearFestival with folk dancing of many varieties, sword, molly, morris ...
Have yourself an excellent #Sunday
Some Molly dancers holding brooms. They are wearing tweed jackets with tatters on, hats and lallygags (string tied round the trousers).

A colour photograph of the entrance to a set of football fields. There is a sign on the righ: 'Welcome to THE FIELD OF DREAMS' above a badge for Whittlesey Junior Football Club. A bank with a road on top runs away up the centre of the image. There is a grass field on the left with goalposts on it. Trees are in the distance, with three large industrial chimneys beyond that. Smoke trails from the centre one, angling left. The sky is bright blue.

The Straw Bear Festival in Whittlesey sees a man dressed as a giant bear made entirely of straw paraded through the streets. This custom, believed to bring good luck for the harvest, has been revived in recent years. 🐻 #StrawBearFestival #Whittlesey
