My #birdringing journey with @btobirds.bsky.social began in 2007. I got my 'C' permit in 2010 & my 'A' permit in 2014. Some of my favourite birds to ring are finches. This mornings session was full of them! #birdconservation #wildlifestories

Wild London - HDclump Wild London often appears as a sea of grey stone and glass. However, a vibrant world of nature breathes beneath its famous skyline.

Wild London is proof that nature doesn’t belong only in remote places. It adapts, persists, and sometimes flourishes right beside us — even in a megacity.

A lioness wades through swamp vegetation in the Okavango Delta, lit by warm golden light with tall reeds surrounding her and her eyes fixed ahead. Text on the image reads: “Fekeetsa — Okavango Lioness.” This is a scene from the documentary Okavango: River of Dreams - Episode 1: Paradise.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗙𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀𝗮 – wounded by a buffalo and left behind by her pride, she fought to survive and protect her cubs in the Okavango swamps.

Her story is one of resilience, motherhood, and survival in the wild. 🦁🌍

We ought to look at materials and ask not just what it’s made of but what habitat was lost to get it. It needs to consider the animal, not just the metric. It needs to help people help wildlife, right where they are.

Story continues below the ALT description.

A Great Horned Owl perches on a log that has fallen over a creek. There are hints of Autumn in the image -- yellow and brown leaves, yellow grasses, and foliage that has died back after its summer's worth of growth. The owl is subtly lit by the setting sun, which is reflected, low on the horizon, in the owl's left eye.

The story:
On my birthday in October, I always take a hike to reflect on the past year. This time, I walked a familiar trail, hoping to spot the Great Horned Owl pair I'd seen over the years. I was surprised to find one of them perched on a log in the creek—a spot I'd never seen either of them before. She seemed calm but out of place. I quietly sat by a nearby tree and photographed her for 30 minutes before leaving her in peace.

The next day, I returned and crossed to the other side of the creek at a low spot. I climbed the other bank and discovered her mate had passed away nearby, hidden behind a fallen Cottonwood tree's trunk. It explained her unusual behavior the prior day -- she was waiting for her mate. Though sad, it was a poignant moment to have realized the strength of their years-long bond in their serene and natural setting. I broke a few Autumnal stems of grasses and flowers I found nearby and used them to cover the body of the owl and thanked both him and his mate for letting me share in their sacred moments.
