Veranda of the Sacher Hotel, Philharmonikerstraße, Vienna
White table and chairs.
Photographed on 28 March 2010

I learned of that little bit of lore from Thomas Bernhard's "Wittgenstein's Nephew" (where he calls the back front of the opera house den "Arsch der Oper"). If you are not yet familiar with Bernhard's writing, this autobiographical novella is a good way to start.

Good Morning from Vienna!
Thomas Bernhard and Paul Wittgenstein
used to hang out here, enjoying the sight of the "back of the opera house" on the opposite side of the street.
