It's #WorldAnatomyDay, a good excuse to give a shout-out to Michael Sappol's brilliant 'Queer Anatomies: Aesthetics and Desire in the Anatomical Image, 1700-1900' (2024) and double take at some of the extraordinary images he discusses. 🤔 #queer #history #hstm #histmed @museumbums.bsky.social 🌈📚🗃️

It's #WorldAnatomyDay!
To celebrate here's a stunning woodcut illustration from our first edition of "De Humani Corporis Fabrica" by Andreas Vesalius. Published in 1543 the book was a major breakthrough in the development of modern anatomy.
Overhead surgical light with multiple illuminated panels arranged in a circular flower-like pattern, accompanied by text on the left that reads: "Donating Your Body to Medical Science" with "Medical Science" highlighted in bold purple font.
It's #WorldAnatomyDay!
Our anatomy department sat down with Anne on “The Teaching and Scholarship” Podcast to discuss her personal experience and the importance of our Body Donation program.

Happy World Anatomy Day! Today, we celebrate the life and work of Andreas Vesalius, whose relentless pursuit of anatomical truth transformed the field of medicine. His impact is felt to this day. Thank you, Vesalius! #WorldAnatomyDay #Vesalius #historyofmedicine
The stunning illustrations in Vesalius’ Fabrica are as groundbreaking as the text itself. These images brought anatomy to life, combining art and science in an extraordinary way. #AnatomyArt #HistoryMatters #WorldAnatomyDay
At a time when human dissection was controversial, Vesalius boldly performed dissections to reveal the true structure of the body, debunking long-held myths. His courage reshaped medical understanding! #VesaliusDissections #AnatomyHistory #WorldAnatomyDay
Vesalius dared to question Galen, the medical authority for over 1,300 years! By dissecting human bodies, he corrected many of Galen’s anatomical errors, pushing science forward. #VesaliusVsGalen #AnatomyHistory #WorldAnatomyDay
In 1543, #Vesalius published De Humani Corporis Fabrica, a revolutionary anatomy book that emphasized direct observation and human dissection. This work transformed anatomy forever! #AnatomyHistory #WorldAnatomyDay
Vesalius’ journey started young—at 18, he was already studying medicine! His early passion for the human body drove him to challenge ancient beliefs and lay the foundation for modern anatomy. #Vesalius #MedicalHistory #WorldAnatomyDay
Countdown to World Anatomy Day
We’re counting down to World Anatomy Day! Over the next two weeks, we’ll explore the incredible contributions of Andreas #Vesalius, the father of modern anatomy. Stay tuned to discover how his ground-breaking work shaped the world of medicine. #WorldAnatomyDay #MedEdMonday
It’s #WorldAnatomyDay
Most anatomy subjects and research involves human anatomy. But, f.e. to reduce the use of animals for research, animal anatomy is as important. And a lot more diverse. 😉
I’m specialized in animal anatomy (3d) visualization and not just the usual suspects
Happy #WorldAnatomyDay! 🐷
