What a surprise: a large batch of thank you notes from Mrs. Jenna’s students at Three Rivers School in Pembroke, NH!
They were one of the many classrooms I visited virtually on #WorldReadAloudDay, Feb. 4. So glad they enjoyed A UNIVERSE OF RAINBOWS!

Quick brag- my spouse @intuitivedarling.bsky.social was in her first book fair for #WorldReadAloudDay. She read from her poetry book and facilitated a round table discussion.
I had to watch the discussion and reading from the booth so I missed most of it, but I saw a very engaged crowd 📖
It's #WorldReadAloudDay time to celebrate and honor the power of reading and sharing stories and expand the scope of global literacy.

I missed #WorldReadAloudDay yesterday, but I just want to encourage parents to read aloud to their children. My mom did that for me, and I loved books so much that I could read when I was 5, and became a bibliophile—and much later, a book editor!
photo from behind a group of kids sitting on the floor, looking up at the screen, as Jocelyn Rish (a middle-aged white woman in a purple shirt) shows her book Battle of the Butts.
And this picture is from Anna C. Scott Elementary in NJ, and it reminds me that these screens make my face really, REALLY big, so I should always remember to apply plenty of concealer.😱

3 photos of kids looking up at the screen as Jocelyn Rish (a middle-aged white woman in a purple shirt) reads from her book. One of the photos is a close up a young light brown boy wearing a spiderman hoodie with a look of absorbed curiosity on his face.
This photo collage is from North Pointe Elementary
in Texas, and the expression on young Spiderman's face is why I do what I do.🥰

#WorldReadAloudDay is honestly one of my favorite days of the year and one of the best parts of being a #KidLit author! Thank you for having me!!
In the simple act of reading aloud, we find connection, comfort, and care. This World Read Aloud Day, let us remember how shared words can gently support mental health and emotional well-being. Sometimes, being heard is just as healing as being understood.

Today, I volunteered as a virtual visiting author for #WorldReadAloudDay at six classrooms around the USA. I read from my book THE UFO FILES and talked about becoming an author. But first, I test your wits with a space quiz. Ready? Let's go! 👽 open.substack.com/pub/kathrynh...
I didn’t realize #WorldReadAloudDay would make my day…nay, YEAR! An educator on one of the Zooms called me a famous author and said she is a big fan! 😱
Turns out #WorldReadAloudDay was just this medicine this weary-hearted writer needed! 📚
Felt so good to be in (virtual) community with teachers, librarians & kids who love books like I do. Plus, I will never get tired of the questions kindergartners think to ask.
7 Umami draw-alongs for 7 schools - another WRAD complete! The day is always a bit of a marathon, but it brings me so much joy to read and draw with the students. Thank you everyone for being such kind hosts! #wrad26 #worldreadaloudday
An illustration of a turtle holding a stack of books in one hand and a megaphone in the other. The words in purple on the left side of the image say, “Celebrate World Read-Aloud Day.”
The cover of a children’s chapter book called, The Secret of Platform 13, by Eva Ibbotson. Four characters appear in the foreground: a wizard with a long white beard, an invisible ogre, a character wearing green with plants grown out of a hat in her head, and a young girl wearing black. In the background is a ship on blue water under a blue sky.
It can be challenging to find the right chapter book to read aloud, especially if your classroom community has many early-readers, kids with attention challenges, and multi-language learners.
Today at the end of a chapter, I heard these magic words:
Can we keep reading?
Happy #WorldReadAloudDay!

It was an awesome experience reading Robo-Motion🤖🐆 to a class in India 🇮🇳! (even if I was Zooming close to midnight). And of course kitty wanted in on the action.
