A sanderling doing its pipe-pipe-pipe thing with the distant ruins of a sand castle behind them. The trace of the previous wave still visible around the dear bird.
It's always #worldshorebirdday in my heart.

I did not know that today was #WorldShorebirdDay; however, by some turn of fate I was at the shore today and also saw a number of tiny Plovers (Semi-palmated and Black-bellied) running busily about. It was a lovely day and seeing your video with other plovers was a joy to watch!
Shorebirds are incredibly graceful and enchanting, but there’s a danger threatening their survival: marine debris.
Take action and help us protect shorebirds from plastic pollution this #WorldShorebirdDay! 🗣️

Fossilized partial skeleton of an extinct bird including the skull, spine, hindlimbs, and pelvis.
Shorebirds (charadriiforms) are ubiquitous near water today, but fossils from early in their evolution are very rare. One of the oldest known possible proto-shorebirds is 54-million-year-old Scandiavis from Denmark, a small bird with long nostril openings. #WorldShorebirdDay 🪶🧪 (📷Bertelli et al.)
Photo of an American Avocet with wings partially extended, as it prepares to launch from the water. It's long, tapered, slightly scooped beak drips with water.
Happy #WorldShoreBirdDay to all who celebrate 😉
It’s #WorldShorebirdDay!! So here are some Piping Plovers doing their thing. Wait till you see the foot tapping, it’s adorable!

A female and male Ruddy Turnstone stand among decaying reeds along a lakeshore. The male has a white and black face and rusty back feathers. The female on the left is similar but her head has more brown in it.
Two peachy-headed American Avocets stand along a lakeshore on a sunny day. Their black and white backs contrast sharply with their long, bluish-grey legs.
A brownish-grey Hudsonian Godwit looks rather dapper in its winter plumage while still on its tundra breeding grounds.
Happy #WorldShorebirdDay. Manitoba sits in the middle of both the Central and Mississippi Flyways giving us many opportunities to encounter a wide variety of shorebirds. This is just a small sampling. 🌿🪶
Cleaning Up The Tundra: Many shorebirds remove eggshellls from their nests as the bright objects draw attention of predators. This American Golden-Plover got ambitous and removed a nearby ptarmigan feather just in case. NPRA, #Alaska #WorldShorebirdDay 🪶
