In honour of #WorldSwiftDay (which I only just learned about) I came outside to try to capture some of the delightfully chatty chimney swifts who zoom around over our neighbourhood.
Yeah, right. Got some gulls… and a tiny swift speck.

It’s #WorldSwiftDay ! Here’s to the chimney swift, that quickly adapted to human structures after its old growth forest log homes were destroyed. Note the adapted tail feathers, tipped with spines for wall clinging. One of my favorite birds.

Equipped with a solar powered caller to attract swifts to the nesting bricks, we had one issue - how to turn the caller on (>10m high) once the swifts arrived?

As it’s #WorldSwiftDay here is a montage of Swift photos I’ve taken. One of the most challenging birds to capture in flight as they are super fast and turn on a sixpence. They are one of my favourite birds and I love to listen to them “ screaming” over the rooftops ❤️

Last summer, #Swifts finally turned up for a viewing of our @RSPBEngland #Lancaster office boxes. To say I was pleased was an understatement. I'm aching with hope that this summer they've moved in permanently and are nesting. 🤞#WorldSwiftDay
