The WWF rapidly got more gimmicky between 1985 and 1986. When you watch #Wrestlemania1, most of the performers are straight up wrestlers. Now you have Adorable Adrian Adonis, Uncle Elmer, Jake with the snake, and other more cartoony gimmick wrestlers.
#Wrestlemania1
You can see a massive leap in production values from #Wrestlemania1 to #Wrestlemania2. Three venues, three broadcast teams, and gosh knows what else. They're also doing solid voiceover interviews during matches from the wrestlers and they presented a video package when Ray Charles sang the anthem.
I mean... look... #Wrestlemania1 was of its time. The production values and the relative plain-ness of the performers is something that gradually gets worked out over the years. I think it was a great show for its time and it was well worth another watch tonight. Glad I took some time out for it.
So glad WWE/Mattel made us a #Wrestlemania1 era Wendi Richter action figure. Now, could they please make us the Fabulous Moolah, Leilani Kai and Cyndi Lauper? All four of these women were responsible... in large part... for Wrestlemania becoming a success. They deserve more recognition. Always.
The very first WWF pay-per-view was #Wrestlemania1 on March 31st, 1985. This was marketed as the biggest wrestling supercard of all time with a main event of Hulk Hogan and Mr. T facing Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff. Crazy to think this was 40yrs ago and #Wrestlemania just keeps getting bigger.
