The weight on my arms turned out to be Wes kneeling on me, keeping me from thrashing myself into the bar stools. He was saving me from some bruises on my face, but the mostly-healed broken bones in my forearm seared with pain. “G’off,” I managed to say, hoarse and twitching. We all three just breathed for a minute. How was it possible to be dizzy while laying down? My mouth was so dry, like it’d been stuffed full of those cotton pads they use at the dentist. Except the dentist had forgotten about me and left them in too long. “That was a bad one,” Wes eventually said. I hadn’t had to push the power around much recently. I’d almost forgotten what these after-effects were like.
