outcome-based translation To understand the value of human translation, you also need to consider its outcome-based value - its effect may be many times its cost.

At some of my recent presentations I have advocated marketing the relevance of my work by explaining the outcomes of human translation in terms of accountability, credibility and expertise. #XITL www.transl8r.eu/2025/10/11/o...

Who’s in/on the lead in early 2025? Have things improved for translators regarding their role in human-machine translation? Is the hype surrounding AI on the wane? Find out more here.

At long last my new blog post is up at www.transl8r.eu/2025/02/12/w... developments with OpenAI and DeepSeek led to a couple of rewrites of parts. It is a longish read - ideal for a commute or a coffee break. #XITL

Who's in/on the lead as we head into 2024? - In-house translation - outside the box As 2023 comes to a close, the role of linguists in translation is unclear: and the commonly used terms only muddy the waters.

This blog post at the end of 2023 was one that proved somewhat transformational for me - it triggered a wave of LinkedIn reposts from members of the profession, as well as speaking opportunities, publications and possibly was where #XITL was born. www.transl8r.eu/2023/12/14/w...

The translation profession needs to back a XITL approach Expertise is where it is at. And then there is ensuring that you stay good at what you are good at. This is why the translation profession needs the XITL approach.

In my absence I did write one blog post that seems to have been picked up quite nicely - it came from a germn of an idea while on the train to Lindau. #XITL is a topic I am looking to focus on. Check out www.transl8r.eu/2024/08/21/w...

As I was on a train to Lindau, a sighting of a distant peak made me scribble down a first draft of this diagram explaining #XITL.

I prefer "Expert in the Lead" #XITL to "Machine in the Loop" #MITL as the later still favours the industry over the profession, and only implies that (expert?) humans are in the lead, rather than stating this fact.
