Browning used to be a fixture around Edmonton. All-around nice guy.
IIRC, soon after this feat his car sported vanity plates: 1STQUAD.

Edmonton has a habit of being home to some cool characters. Wop May is near the top of the list.

One of the saddest stories from my time in Edmonton. Hope the family finally finds peace.

This is the coolest resource I've seen in ages.
Many of these places may no longer exist - at least as they were, but SCTV is timeless.

Recorded with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.
Always a point of pride in #yeghistory.
A reminder that Tina Turner's massive comeback album, Private Dancer, came out just a few months later.
This would be her last time doing NYE in a place like Edmonton, much less a venue like the convention centre.
And that now legendary show? I had other plans and didn't go. π

Candy Cane Lane is literally one of the brightest lights of life in Edmonton.
Back in the 90s, my newlywed house was a tiny bungalow on 148th at 97th and we adopted the tradition with gusto. Motorcyclist that I was, we had Biker Santa on the front lawn amid the decor.
Great memories.

EdTel! Back when Edmonton had the best phone service in the country...owned by the City.

In 1952, well before the AGA moved into it's current location, it operated out of the Secord House.
A small historic home ended up laying the groundwork for one of Edmontonβs biggest cultural spaces.

Edmonton ran Canadaβs longest trolleybus system for 70 years β a quiet piece of history that shaped several neighbourhoods.

West Edmonton Mall covers 5.3 million sq ft and is even accredited as a zoo. Only in Edmonton do shopping and sharks share the same address.

Edmonton once saw a November storm so intense in 1942 that people skied through downtown when streetcars stalled. This city has always been built tough.

Strathcona got the last laugh. It has been the coolest part of Edmonton for a generation.

Photo of a wall cavity behind a panel of removed drywall. It is filled about 2 ft high with balls and sections of old newsprint, as well as several children's toys (blocks and marbles can be seen in the image). Notably, a metal spatula is visible in the middle of it all.
Close-up photo of a section of old newspaper pulled out of a wall cavity. The photo highlights the title, "Edmonton Journal." Underneath, it reads, "EDMONTON, ALBERTA, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1975" matching the date and day of the week 50 years later.
Drywall discoveries: 1975's calendar dates match with 2025.

Good reminder that it wasn't only the Oilers and Esks dynasties that made Edmonton the City of Champions.

Edmonton sure has come a long way since the 50s. What a small town, in so many ways.
One thing hasn't changed: strict adherence to the rules of the road. π

Photo of a lapel pin in the palm of my hand: the base is a gold horseshoe, overlayed with a maple leaf in red, yellow and green. Across the maple leaf is a white scroll/banner that says βEdmontonβ in cursive font.
Screenshot of three lapel pins in what seems to be a series/collection. Each pin has a gold horseshoe base, overlayed with a maple leaf in red, yellow and green. Across the maple leaf is a white scroll/banner; one says Toronto, one says Canada, and one says Niagara Fallsβthe font is all-caps, which is different than the Edmonton one I found in my baseboards.
OK, help me out. Found this behind baseboards in my post-war-era home. Web search shows similar pins for Canada & other cities, but canβt find the history. What were they from? *When* were they from?

Jamie Farr was a regular touring star at Stage West back in the day. Quite the gentleman too.
Likely didn't take much effort to get him to doff his Mudhens jersey and don an Oilers sweater.

This is a fascinating - and in colour - look at pre-WWII Edmonton, polished up for the Royal visit.
Quite a contrast to when Charles and Diana popped by for K-Days 40-odd years later. Though that was an interesting time too.

Ended up finding the #Alberta Railway Museum. Had a nice day there. Will have to check out the Steam Engine on Father's Day or Canada Day.
