the old "OI! clap once if you can hear me! [clap] clap twice if you can hear me [clap clap]" technique works wonders to get a crowd to pay attention to the main thing when they're all busy in conversation.
Just another thing from my bag of showmanship/devrel tricks. #YOW25

Welp, I think I've now been scared sufficiently that I need to change out my 22 year old GPG key. #YOW25
It was already dated with use of dsa1024, but if the rsa2048 is in trouble for existing encrypt/sign operations, rather than just the risk of someone pretending to sign new sub-keys...
A woman presenting at a conference. The slide is titled “squinting based analysis” and features a picture of a woman staring at a laptop
“Squinting based analysis “. - @thinkingfish.bsky.social
Yes, I have done an awful lot of this.
#yow25
my colleague Sina and I are here representing @honeycomb.io!!! #YOW25

Nine Secrets for a High-Velocity Culture 1. Reproducible Deploys - If it ain't in Git it doesn't exist! 2. Fast CI/CD - I wanna go fast! 3. Observability - Don't drive at night without headlights! 4. Feature Flagging - Smaller boom, less fear! 5. Code Ownership - You build it, you run it! (with a twist) 6. Blameless Culture - No one wins the shame game! 7. Service Level Objectives - If you liked it, shoulda put an SLO on it! 8. Chaos Engineering - Test your assumptions! 9. Platform Engineering - ties everything together.
Slides are up, now that I've had the ability to iterate the talk three times in a row! #YOW25

“Juniors have more economic value than ever before”. Because AI development can accelerate learning if we can help them and let them in.
Hopeful insights from @kentbeck.com #yow25
Kent Beck standing on stage in front of an introductory slide titled “Sustainable Augmented Development”
Third and final time I get to welcome @kentbeck.com to a stage at @yowconf.bsky.social
It’s been fun, and a huge honour.

It’s the final #YOW25 city - Sydney!
We cannot wait to see everyone this morning at the Sofitel Wentworth for the next 2 days.
a negative Aptitude Metrix nucleic test, with green - and white power lit, and not red + light.
On that note, I'm verified good for the rest of #YOW25!
Fri PM Deploy octopus whistling, pushing out v1.1, v1.2, v1.3, and v1.4 on a conveyor belt A purple tiger or leopard cub with DEPLOY ON FRIDAY text in comic sans shown on top other stickers on background, including an octopus steering a 7 spoked kubernetes helm, if you liked it you should have put an SLO on it, and that span could have been an attribute.
@octopus.com 💪 @honeycomb.io stickers at #YOW25!
Crowd of people heading through auditorium doors at the YOW! Conference in Brisbane
We're kicking off #YOW25 in Brisbane! Cannot wait to spend the next 2 days with the Brisbane community.
Sydney, you're next - and there's still time to grab your ticket: yowcon.com/sydney-2025/
The slide says “Hey D.M. Can we try?”
One of @brunty.me ‘s slides is something I get to hear all the time.
#yow25
The crew were saying we were pretty sure yours was the oldest YOW! tshirt we’ve seen this year and we love it! ❤️
Thanks so much for joining us at #YOW25 and your support!
Back in my own bed between editions of #YOW25, skipping the customary speaker recreational weekend between Melbourne and Brisbane.
I adore everyone involved, and also I just... need some alone time in a familiar place. Being in hotels too many days in a row sucks.
Thanks #YOW25 for a brilliant conference, keeping the dev spirit alive in 25. So many good sessions, conversations and revelations. There was a strong feeling of the good old days and new energy ✨
Hacking AI systems at #YOW25
Katherine Jarmul gave us some sharp warnings.
It feels good to be on stage again after a few months off, ending the year with a bang on the @yowconf.bsky.social roadshow #YOW25
This time I've even brought my own entourage, with our whole family having a few adventures along the way
Frank is pointing at a visualisation of votes in US states. When viewed in greyscale you can’t tell the difference between red and blue states
Watching @frank.computer talk about testing and designing accessible data visualisations #yow25
That was a really great presentation. Would highly recommend people check out the recording or attend the Brisbane or Sydney editions of it. #YOW25
This talk, titled "Beyond Line Charts", should actually be titled "Your Charts Are Lying To You" :) @thinkingfish.bsky.social at #YOW25
[ed: these are all things where I think we've really nailed the usability of getting heatmaps, of using the right aggregation functions and windows, etc. at my employer @honeycomb.io; as the speaker is saying data is not a line, it is a shape] #YOW25
"squinting based analysis" with Yao Yue of IOP Systems on a conference stage
Yes! Don't make a debugging face, make the data insight obvious in the visualisations rather than smudging things into abstract Borgmon art. @thinkingfish.bsky.social @ #YOW25
#YOW25 day 2, being led in a deeply philosophical discussion with Michael Feathers on how we can extend ourselves better in defining meaning when we define things
Live coded music at #YOW25 with @samaaron.bsky.social
Awesome!
Last session of the day is a musical performance and talk from @samaaron.bsky.social with Sonic Pi. #YOW25
The slide says: PROGRAMMING The Past Present and Future Kevlin Henney
Already getting some laughs. @kevlin.bsky.social is giving the perfect talk for this part of day. #YOW25
The slide says: Branchless programming CPU's have big pipelines of instructions Your code needs to fill this pipeline, fast. Which instruction comes 'next' after an IF-statement? Branches are often bottlenecks.
Branchless programming for code optimisation. @royvanrijn.com ‘s talk on processing a billion rows with Java is full of cool tricks. #yow25
Geeking out with @brunty.me at #YOW25
A man speaking at a conference in front of a slide showing a fork in the road between transactions and replication
A lot of what @jimwebber.org says is not things I’m going to write on the internet.
But #YOW25 attendees are getting a treat.
