This bronze tortoise statue stands on a tiled pedestal, looking back toward a restaurant in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. The intricately detailed sculpture showcases realistic textured scales, a strong shell, and an expressive face with an open mouth. The statue is surrounded by a rope barrier and positioned near a road that leads to the restaurant. In the background, the blue ocean stretches to the horizon, with palm trees swaying in the breeze and a white fence with brown woven panels enclosing the area. Although tortoises are not native to Puerto Rico, this statue serves as a striking and unexpected landmark along the coast.

We found Maví and it made us happy. It’s the Puerto Rican version, less intense than in the Dominican Republic. Yabucoa and Maunabo, Puerto Rico are worth a visit, if only for the drive.
