Our copper #yatate 矢立 are of the ladle or pipe shape variety, with the brush-tube attached directly to the inkwell.

The bamboo one is a good e.g. of an inrō-shaped 印籠 or "stamp case" yatate, with the brush-tube and inkwell connected by a string.

A 3rd early variety was fan-shaped / Hiogi-gata 檜扇型
