#YoonDanbi ‘s work is noted for its quiet but powerful exploration of family relationships across generations, portraying emotional nuance with a naturalistic visual style. She has established herself as a distinctive voice in contemporary South Korean cinema.
In 2022, #YoonDanbi and actor #LeeJeHoon collaborated in the project #AnotherRecord. Lee, a known supporter and champion of indie filmmaking and theatres, was eager to work with Yoon.
The film explores Lee’s imagination, dream and what ifs, caught between reality and fiction.
The prize money has helped #YoonDanbi return investment to Dankook University, retrieving the rights to the film, which is being represented internationally by M-Line Distribution.
The effort paid off, #YoonDanbi won four prizes: the Directors’ Guild of Korea (DGK) Award, the NETPAC Award, the KTH Award and the Citizen Critics’ Award at the Busan International Film Festival where the film received its world premiere in October 2019.
The feature began as #YoonDanbi graduation project with a budget comprised of investment from the school and from her own production outfit Onu Films.
But it’s the family drama #MovingOn, which won the Bright Future competition at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), that has gained #YoonDanbi the attention of mainstream media and audiences.
