It’s not exactly easy when he’s not sure what it is that he’s seeing. It’s not that he can’t perceive the body he’s in; his vessel’s eyes are sharp enough for that. Snow-white hair and light grey eyes, pale skin, and a crooked tooth. He’s Hikaru. Or maybe he’s just inhabiting Hikaru. Maybe Hikaru is inhabiting him. There has to be a firm line in this complex weaving of soul and cells, and he’s spent over an hour trying to peel it all apart to uncover what this new existence entails. Well, at least he feels like he’s been stuck in this moist, small room that long. Time is so much sharper yet muddled in this sack of flesh than it ever was before he had a physical form. Before one was given to him. He isn't this meat, and yet he is. The reflection clearly shows that it’s his form in the mirror, what has been him for a little over a decade and a half. And yet he's also been it for centuries longer than the minuscule blip that returns his gaze in the mirror. Those seventeen years aren’t even his own, are absolutely insignificant in comparison, and yet feel like an eternity compared to his previous unthinking immortality. He heaves a long sigh, fogging up the glass as he exhales the weight of the world, and scowls as the moisture retreats. Scowling at him. At it. His soul doesn’t match his body. Plain and simple, that’s how it is. And it’s not wrong. It’s not right, either. But it doesn’t feel that way.

Digital art of Yoshiki and "Hikaru" from the summer hikaru died sitting together eating popsicles. "Hikaru" has his arm around a gloomy looking Yoshiki and smiles at the camera.
