Years ago, when I began to work on my game, this is how I learnt how to create textures: I studied from Zelda, Beyond Good and Evil, Okami, Torchlight:
1 - Look closely at screenshots from the games
2 - Try to spot the repeating pattern
3 - Redraw them with simple pen & paper 📝
