The #Voortrekkers established #Natalia in 1839 after defeating the #Zulu. The #UK in turn defeated the #Boers & annexed it as #ColonyOfNatal in 1843. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1897 it was doubled in size when the formerly independent kingdom of #Zululand (#kwaZulu) was added to it.

#筑波実験植物園 サバンナ温室のトゲオニソテツです。鮮やかなオレンジ色は実ではなくて球果という大きな花で、30cmくらいありました。モザンビーク、南アフリカ原産で英名はZululand cycadです。葉に鋭い棘があるので和名は刺鬼蘇鉄と言うようです。
