Okay so one of the things I noticed at the #aBIOTECH2025 conference in China is the massive emphasis on potato research and this totally makes sense with the yields, climate resilience, nutrition, and probably the “keeps the peasants from revolting” aspect too. Roots of Empire past and future?

Absolutely still 😵‍💫 over the potato work I saw at #aBIOTECH2025. Also probably my favorite #carb, don't tell my sourdough starter.

This is remarkable––heard a lot about this at #aBIOTECH2025. Many labs are working to make polyploid crops such as #potato amenable to breeding for the kind of gains that breeders made with rice and maize. Many comparisons of vegetatively propagated polyploids to the Model T.

This post is about a science fiction convention, but very relevant to presenters at 🧪 conferences. Kudos to my @planteditors.bsky.social colleague @nancyrhof.bsky.social for taking hours to figure out the pronunciation of the names for the early career researchers symposium at #aBIOTECH2025
