Let's make this happen, one conference at a time.
The #AABA is currently running a survey on future virtual conferences.
So if you're in #BioAnth, #Archaeology why not go fill it out. It takes about 5 minutes.

Had a great time at #AABA2025 in Baltimore!
It was awesome to get to connect with so many colleagues! I also had the honor of presenting the second chapter of my dissertation, and am so thankful to the conference organizers for awarding me the Outstanding Student Presentation Prize! 🐒🧠
Wonderful celebration of Terry Harrison's career at #AABA2025! Thanks @3dmandibleny.bsky.social and Denise Su for organizing, and thank you Terry for agreeing to be toasted (and roasted)!

two fragmentary pieces of the pelvis of Homofloresiensis, with a scale bar for size.
A delayed note to say I really enjoyed attending #AABA2025 last week! It will come as a surprise to absolutely no one that my highlights included celebrating 100 years of Australopithecus and new looks at Homo floresiensis postcrania.

So many talks at this year's #AABA2025 conference included research on/with Kanzi, to the point where people were making jokes about it during the primatology sessions. He was clearly a remarkable individual.
Congrats to UMass grad students Laura Haynes (Anthro) and Katie Rickelton (MCB) @katierickelton.bsky.social for receiving student presentation awards at the #AABA2025 conference!

The end is in sight! Glad to hear #AABA2025 was a blast.
Had a great time at #AABA2025 last week, topped up my nerdy anthropology energy to get me through the end of the academic year
@palevoprim.bsky.social researchers were busy the last two days presenting their results at the #AABA2025 meeting in Baltimore! Check it out 👇 www.xcdsystem.com/aaba/program... @univpoitiers.bsky.social @cnrs.fr
I just played the Indri song for my parents, and one my cats spooked out of the field of battle too, retreating upstairs 😹
Caught up on the battles that we missed while I was attending #AABA2025...
Mum: 15 pts
Dad & me: 12 pts

Goodbye Baltimore and AABA, it's been so nice to be here, enjoy the presentations and meet friends and colleagues. I hope to be back next year. Until we meet again

My first #AABA2025 was a success! Really happy to share a photo from my talk as my first post here :)
Heading home from #AABA2025 after an incredible five days of inspiring workshops, insightful talks, and great conversations with colleagues! Huge thanks to the organizers for an amazing conference 👏 @charchotte.bsky.social @valockwood.bsky.social @palevoprim.bsky.social
#AABA2025 was amazing!
See you all next year!
Proud of FAB Lab-ers Victoria Conquest, Ali Lear, and Caroline Schilling for presenting their thesis research at the @bioanth.org meeting in Baltimore! Another excellent conference! #AABA2025
Proud of #UMich grad student Rosa Muñoz and lab coordinators Charlie Mackenzie and Skylar Brodnan for giving their first conference talks at #AABA2025! Work on food transfers, tool use, and social attention in sanctuary and wild #chimpanzees, in collaboration with Zarin Machanda and many others!
I'm heading out a little early, so that's a wrap on #AABA2025. Thanks to everyone who made it a great conference! It was wonderful to see old friends, connect with online acquaintances in person, and meet lots of new folks. 👋
Nicole Schapker on perception of risks during arboreal locomotion: wild Red-tailed monkeys have longer latencies before leaping to narrow branches while carrying infants; experiment w captive Ruffed lemurs found effects of branch width & interactions with dark/light on stride.
#AABA2025 🌳🐒💡
Kathryn Judson studies decision-making in Western lowland gorillas: decision-making is distributed, but silverbacks initiated activity changes disproportionally & generally most influential individuals; but females more successful. Success rates also dependent on context.
#AABA2025 🦍
David Watts studied a (rare) permanent chimpanzee community fission at Ngogo (Uganda), finding unequal effect on each community's food access & competition: Ngogo West has more access to multiple tree species (food sources). Ngogo Central has lost access, except a few tree species.

What makes us human?
Bipedalism, empathy, art, yeah yeah..all good answers, but I think we have a winner 🤣
#AABA2025
Rosa Muñoz studies food transfer in a semi-free-ranging population of chimpanzees (Ngamba Sanctuary, Uganda): most transfers due to theft; some passive sharing, only a few instances of active sharing. Sharing more common among kin. Males steal more, esp. high rank males targeting females. #AABA2025
Ellen Dyer studies wild chimpanzees in Kibale National Park (Uganda), finding sex-specific effects of affiliative bonds on urinary cortisol: stronger same-sex affiliative bonds associated with lower cortisol in females (rank-dependent slope), but higher cortisol in males!
#AABA2025
Joseph Feldblum studies social dynamics in wild chimpanzees in Gombe (Tanzania), finding no effect of separation (due to fission-fusion) on subsequent aggression, but increased grooming in male-male dyads after a day or more apart (regardless of bond strength!).
#AABA2025
Elizabeth Warren studies social tolerance in chimpanzees. Using caregiver surveys & empirical tests of food sharing, she finds 2 distinct factors in survey data at Maryland Zoo & 3 at Ngamba Sanctuary (Uganda). Low correlations b/w survey & experiment. Tolerance modular + context specific! #AABA2025
