STREET PATROLS
Men Urged to Join Up as Wardens
The Stoke-on-Trent Emergency Committee, who met to-day, ask us to give publicity to the fact that they deprecate the street patrols which have been operating for some time, and urge all those who are willing to help in this way to join as Civil Defence Service as Wardens.
They will then be properly trained and make themselves really useful to the community.

Just finishing my #aaeh2025 paper on street patrols in WW1, and I've just found street patrols in WW2! Very clearly *not* the ARP, as they are encouraged to disband and join the official civil defence orgs instead. Fascinating. Evening Sentinel (Stoke-on-Trent), 26 Jul 1940

My #aaeh2025 talk and slides are done, except that I need to try and do a test run for timing. (I’ve been paranoid about this ever since the Zeppelinitis incident at the 2015 AAEH. But we won’t speak of that)

Civil defence from below Next July, the Australasian Association for European History (AAEH) conference is being held at the University of Auckland. My abstract having been accepted, it looks like I'll be going to New Zealand...

My #aaeh2025 paper is coming along! I have a first draft and I have another week in which to polish it. But I also have some decisions to make about which parts of the abstract I want to pretend I never wrote
