I’ve been riding my bike in the Assiniboine forest a lot the last few years and I’ve collected quite a few reference photos of deer that I’ve encountered. This painting is from one of these photos and is a young deer buck, with his antlers still in velvet. The bedsheet I painted it on has a cute pattern of little white dogs, and in places where the paint is more transparent you can find little dogs hidden in the deers face.
