Grateful @aeraedresearch.bsky.social to reflect on mentors who help shape our scholarly lives.

Thankful for @galesinatra.bsky.social, who guided me through my dissertation on motivated conceptual change at UNLV. Proud to be part of her academic family tree.

What is funnier is that people in raves sometimes do not get it—maybe out of residual university PTSD—while people at #AERA2026 with whom I discussed #RaveAsMethod actually got it quite well.

Learning by Observing and Pitching In -- LOPI Overview This 3-minute video gives an overview of a way of learning that is common in many Indigenous communities of the Americas -- Learning by Observing and Pitching In to family and community endeavors…

A highlight of #AERA2026 was when Sam Wineburg introduced me to Barbara Rogoff. Barbara has a great series of videos on how children learn through collaboration and observation. Here's a one on Learning by Observing and Pitching In featuring Indigenous communities. #PsychSciSky #AcademicSky #EduSky

Last day of #AERA2026.

By now the panels, corridor conversations, hotel rooms, overstimulation, and long walks have all merged into one thing again: a temporary system for thinking under different conditions.

I really appreciated @dankrutka.bsky.social's discussant remarks at our #AERA2026 symposium.

Dan argued, "that one reason we are haunted by our histories is because this country is drenched in marketing—the marketing of white supremacy, the marketing of patriarchy, the marketing of technology".

Nope, I'm not dancing to a Bangles song, I'm discussing the great presentations at #AERA2026 on whether and/or how #GenAI can be used in education research. The take-away? Be careful out there, folks. I'm ok with the old-school "AI" methods, but skeptical of the "generative" tools.

Kudos to Amédee Marchand Martella and Alyssa Lawson for organizing the session and to Noah Glaser, Joshua Weidlich, Miriam Mulders and Josef Buchner for the provocative papers in this symposium on why media comparison studies (e.g., Is GenAI better than traditional teaching?) are flawed. #AERA2026
