Very happy to see the attention given to this work 👇⚒️🧪 that was also presented to #AGU24. Access to the Nuvvuagittuq Greenstone Belt is now restricted due to thoughtless damage (not by these scientists) described below www.science.org/content/arti...

What's more appropriate for #MarchMadness than this latest StoryCorps #TalesFromTheDeep episode. Taken a listen to how two scientists from two different nations together at sea on JOIDES Resolution discovered their shared passion for #basketball (then caught a game together at #AGU24!) 🌊🏀

I had a great experience at #AGU24 back in December, but in hindsight there is one very negative thing I can’t stop thinking about: they had an “Impact of the 2024 Elections on Science” seminar where AGU employees essentially sat back and told us all it’s going to be okay. Is it? Is it fucking okay?

A 1975 paper in Science by late pioneering Lamont geochemist Wallace Broecker is generally credited as providing the first use of the phrase “global warming” in scientific literature. At this time, the planet was emerging from a decades-long natural cooling cycle which, according to Broecker, had been masking the ongoing warming caused by rising industrial carbon dioxide emissions. Broecker correctly predicted that as the cooling cycle ended, global temperatures would rise swiftly. Broecker (center) aboard the research vessel Melville, Pacific Ocean, around 1973.
