All this sequence, served by the incredible music, was a fabulous point to Tyler story. Not a final point (as we see in season 4 how he's still struggling with his trauma - and probably even after when he went to college), but still, we feel how doing this picture project was for him a way to get back his own body, and probably a kind of "stolen virility" who happened to him, one season before. I even wonder right now if he shown this project to any other one. Alex being probably his closest friend, went through a lot, helping him with his own trauma. It felt like if he has to show this probably very intimate project to someone, it would be him (or may be Clay). I quite appreciate the friendship between Clay and Tyler, but the one with Alex was quite special. Alew was probably as damaged than Tyler, only difference was that he was better to hide it behind a cool attitude, having probably better social skills to escape bullying instead of Tyler. Still, deep down, they knew they was quite alike and able to understand each other and support each other.

And that's quite what I was saying in the precedent pictures. During all season 3, Alex has been here, protecting Tyler. Even if, compared to Clay, he's not pictured a lot doing it, few scenes proves he was able to kill (or at least, threatening Monty to death) to protect Tyler. I feel he was probably the only one, or the first, to not change his initial attitude to Tyler, just continuing to be his friend (even if how own struggling made them apart from him in season 2). Thing is, after a whole season in a bad shape, at the end, Tyler has recovered enough to be able to take his initial stand, to take care of Alex like he tried to do since season 2. As he said to Jessica feeling guilty to not understand Tyler been raped, signs are different with guys. And because he went through it, Tyler is finally able to recognize the signs in Alex attitude at this moment. It was quite hard to show in drawing how Alex, at this moment, make his best to stay cool and not falling in tears. Signs Tyler, empathic as he is - and not blind anymore by angriness, is able to recognize. And then, the ultimate question, the "are you okay ?", the one to ask, to invite someone to talk, if he wants to, to let the door open. If 13 reasons why knew how to do something, it was how to explain to people the attitude to have with people struggling with trauma, depression, anxiety or negative feelings.

And here it is, the last page. I was really proud to finish it, even told myself I would do it again. With 13 reasons why, may be, with others shows definitely. I already have a list from Buffy, Doctor Who, Glue, and of course, the ultimate teen show : Degrassi. Not sequence to expect, more sequence who touched me personnaly speaking. Let's just say it was long. I used so much evening drawing those. To be fair, when I watched the sequence for the first time, and decided to do this project, it was because I told myself "this sequence is incredible, and I'm quite sure the effect in a double spread pages would be powerful" - and because no-one would do it, I decided to do it myself. Is that not how it worked. If you want something to exist, just do it yourself.

The "after Bryce died" was what I was saying about teenshow stopping to be realistic. I think the Bryce murder was the last limit where the show was still realistic as a "teen show". Yes of course, murder exists, and it's quite common for a teen show to have a character dying in it. But the fact the character has been killed and it became a whole murder affair was not, personaly, what I was looking for by watching a "teen" show (IS 13 reasons why viewer target is more young adult instead of teenagers ? I wonder). Still, as I said before, S3 still has on the side of the red murder line, a lot of crazy good moments - named "the recovery of Tyler Down".

Sometimes, the choice is to make a bubble or not, even if it's only for an interrogation point. If you watch it, of course there is none, and sometimes, the look of a character is just a glimpse during the sequence. Still, it's part of the natural rhythm in the montage. In a comic-book, it's definitely important to get these little moments, for the sequential, but also to capture the attention. Here, what Tyler is getting, what is that ? I felt like putting an interrogation point was necessary for the reading of the page. But to be fair, I think it could have been done without. It's always a question of choice. Putting an interrogation point, it's saying MY vision of what is the thought of Alex, and giving to the reader it's the one (I think it is, but may be not) - but in a show, as the viewer, we can imagine anything. Also, I really love to take this "not even a second shot" of a character hesitating in the scene, and using a whole panel for it. Sometimes, just a "not even a second" shot says A LOT about what going through the character at this moment. This tiny hesitation in Tyler, asking himself "Do I show it or not ?", "He asked the question I was hoping he would not, but may be I was expecting it", "I kinda knew this moment to show my project will come, and I still don't know if I'm ready for it". Yes, all these possible thoughts in only "not even a second" tiny shot.

The first real confrontation of Alex to the horror Tyler went through. As he said, "the proof" it's happened. And we learned finally why Tyler did these shots, to make people understand what he almost did, he didn't do it for nothing. He clearly prepared everything before to go to the bal with his guns, the message to his parents and friends, and the picture, thinking in his own, very naive way, it would give reason to his act. It still a very painful moment to watch, like very sad, to imagine the parent finding this picture and discovering too late what their son went through. Still, in the way of talking, you still feel the pain and a kind of shame in Tyler words, when he admits why he took it. Sadly, writing is not intonation, comic-book cannot provide the same effect that a tiny change of tone in the voice can do (to be honest, it can, by the drawing, even by changing the shape of the text bubble - but it was a personal choice to restricted myself to only the shot from the sequence).

The only way to evocate the hesitation in Tyler voice, as he does in the sequence, was to separate the text in few bubbles instead of gathering it in one. It makes the reader have to take a little pause in his reading, to mimicking the little pauses Tyler (Devin Druid) does. Rereading the pages, I wonder if I should put a tiny "click" near the hand of Tyler, to make it more clear he changing the picture at each panel. I remember asking this action to me last summer, and decided it would be too much. But now, I still reasking me the question. May be I should have, may be it's just a detail.

There was a lot of sequence I could choose in all the 13 reasons why serie. Still, this one was one of many in S3 who moved me a lot, interpreted brillantly by Devin Druid and Miles Heizer.

I was not really fan of some changes the serie took with time - like the whole "who killed Bryce", feeling it was going too much further of a "realistict" teen show, making the teenagers a tiny bit too much overpowered. I admit I was still really curious about who did it, and I kinda binge watched serie 3. So, may be not the worse choise of scenario after all. Still, there was a lot of scenes who makes us remember the protagonist was teenagers struggling with their own traumas and difficulties. In this season, Tyler was number one of course, but Alex always was a ticking time bomb that most people believed he was better. Alex was always very good at pretending, using a nice and cool attitude to trick people about how he felt.

The fact of drawing this kind of sequence, to watch it again, and again to find the perfect screenshot to redraw, is such a perfect way to analyse actor play, and all these tiny changes of attitude who say silently what is not verbalised. Here, you see how Tyler becomes kinda defensive, misunderstanding why Alex asks him about the "gun", probably certain, and disappointed, that his friend still doubt him. Like he thought he gained the trust of his friends (most of all, Alex, who is kinda his best friend), to realise it's not the case. Of course, it's a misunderstanding, as we saw in the silent reaction of Alex who has to find a random (and clumsy) reason to explain himself, pretending it was all for Tyler own way to defend himself (yes, after all these months of therapy, definitely clumsy, Alex). Still, we saw of Tyler grow up about his relationship with guns, feeling more supported by his friends or the adults, and knowing he doesn't have to depend on weapons.
