Watercolour painting of a red umbrella on the Arctic ice. This is a small painting, about 4 in.². The umbrella is red and it is open and upside down sitting on a pale blue and pink ice and snow. One gets a feeling of loneliness and isolation.

Hi there, JC Little here. This image is the pencil layout design phase of my next painting. The image is a horizontal rectangle, and shows a young man on the left and a replica of him on the right. He is posed so that we see him from the waist up. The background is a gradient from yellow to pale blue from the bottom to the top. The young man is wearing a white sweatshirt. Behind him there is a decorative strip of wallpaper about mid-level. This decorative strip shows a repeat motif of a standing crow with some berries and leaves. The figure on the left is displayed with full opacity. He is looking with just his eyes at the figure on the right. The figure on the right is a replica of the one on the left, but he is displayed with 50% Transparency. We can see right through him. Also, he is looking directly at us. Where the wallpaper motif of crows goes behind him, we can see through it because he is transparent, the crows are flying up in a chaotic manner. Where we can see through the young man on the right, the horizontal lines of the wallpaper strip, top and bottom, are erratically displayed - similar to a stressed out heart rate on a medical heart rate monitor. This young man is evidently going through some big feelings inside himself. He is beside himself, and that is the name of the artwork. This is only a work in progress, it is only the design phase. It is a digital drawing.
