Tombstone of an archer found at Housesteads on Hadrian's Wall (GBR). He holds a bow in his right hand, apparently strung, an implement or tool in his right (often identified as an axe but more likely a billhook for making arrows). He has an eagle-headed blade (?sword) on his right hip suspended from a waist belt and a quiver over his right shoulder. He wears a knee-length tunic, a cloak, and a conical helmet with a crest. Since it is, apparently, #ArcheryDay, here is the Housesteads archer, currently on display in the Great North Museum Hancock. He proudly clutches his composite bow in his left hand, an implement (billhook?) in his right, a sheathed blade on his right hip, and a quiver on his right shoulder.

Variation in their forms suggest some of the combatants came from many kilometres away, adding to evidence for a clash between local and incoming groups 🏺
