A period piece- for mono :) happy holidays Blair rolled over in bed and groaned. She looked at the time, 6:17 AM. She had woken up with a searing pain in her abdomen and an uncomfortable wetness between her thighs. Oh no. At least she didn’t have to work today. She stumbled out of bed and padded into the bathroom, squinting as she flipped the light switch and the room flooded with a harsh, fluorescent brightness. She opened the drawer she kept her sanitary products in, fumbling around for a tampon but only finding discarded wrappers and the diva cup she had tried once but didn’t like: desperate, she opened all the other drawers in her cabinet, pawing through their contents but to no avail. Shit. She had meant to buy tampons during her last grocery trip but of course they were the one thing she had forgotten. She groaned, slamming the drawers shut. There was no way she was going out for tampons right now. She felt like absolute garbage, and it was freezing out. All she wanted was to curl back up in her warm bed, but this was not something she could ignore. She glanced at the time again, then an idea occurred to her: Yelaine, her girlfriend, was usually up by now. Blair quickly pulled out her phone and dialed her girlfriend’s number. It rang only once before she picked up. “Blair?” Despite her pain and discomfort, Blair smiled at the sound of Yelaine’s voice over the phone. “Hi sweetie, did I wake you up?” she asked. “No, I’m just getting ready for the gym,” Yelaine responded. “Why are you up though?”
“I got my period and forgot to buy tampons,” she sighed. “I was wondering... if it’s not too much trouble, maybe you could pick some up for me?” Yelaine snorted. “Of course. I’ll be over in 10.” “Thank you, love. See you then,” Blair smiled. She hung up and let out a sigh of relief. Yelaine was coming and everything would be all right. She wandered into the living room and plopped down on the couch, pulling a blanket over herself and trying to ignore the dull pain in the abdomen as she waited for her girlfriend to arrive. She must’ve dozed off at some point, because she woke roughly 20 minutes later to a gentle touch on her shoulder. She opened her eyes to Yelaine’s concerned face peering down at her. Blair smiled and took her hand, hand resting on her shoulder, in her own. “Thanks for coming,” she murmured, pressing her lips to her palm. “Of course,” Yelaine echoed her sentiment from earlier on the phone. “You know you can always call me for anything. Anytime.” “I do know that, but I’m still grateful,” Blair said, rubbing her knuckles with her thumb. Yelaine smiled and sat down on the couch next to Blair, opening the paper bag she brought with her. “Here are the tampons. I also got some pads too, just in case you needed them,” she said, taking the two boxes out of the bag. Blair immediately took the tampon box and disappeared into the bathroom with it, as Yelaine continued to unpack her shopping bag. Once Blair had used a tampon and changed into fresh underwear and sweatpants, she came back into the living room and sat back down next to her.
“Have you taken any ibuprofen yet?” Yelaine asked her. Blair shook her head. Her cramps were bad, but she couldn’t take the medicine on an empty stomach and she didn’t have the energy to get up and make something. Yelaine made a small noise of discontentment, then pulled a smaller paper bag out from the larger one and handed it to Blair, who smiled gratefully when she noticed the Tim Horton’s logo on the bag. “Here, eat these first, they’ll make it work faster. I’ll go get you some.” She stood up and walked towards the bathroom. Blair opened the bag, smiling as she saw several double chocolate donuts inside. “Yelaine! My favorite! That’s so sweet,” Blair called out toward the door she had disappeared into. She bit into a donut, savoring the chocolate sweetness. Yelaine came back, holding a glass of water and three ibuprofen liquid gels, which she sat on the side table next to Blair. “We’ve been to Tim’s together like twice, I can’t believe you remembered my favorite type of donut,” Blair remarked. Yelaine flushed a little and looked away. “I remember lots of little details like that,” she mumbled. Blair reached up and took her hand, gently tugging her back onto the couch. “Well, it was very thoughtful. Thank you.” She pressed a small kiss onto the corner of Yelaine’s mouth and the blonde’s blush only deepened. They sat there together as Blair finished two of the donuts and took the pills. Already starting to feel better, she rested her head on Yelaine’s shoulder and nuzzled into her neck. “Do you want to go lie down?” Yelaine asked her. “I could give you a back rub if your cramps are still bothering you.”
“That sounds lovely,” Blair smiled. Yelaine stood up and reached down to her, helping her to stand. They walked to the bedroom together, Yelaine keeping her hand on the small of Blair’s back. In the bedroom, Yelaine gathered up the pillows that were strewn haphazardly around the queen size bed and fluffed them up, arranging them in a pile against the headboard. Blair lay down on the bed, rolling over so she was on her stomach. Yelaine climbed on behind her and straddled Blair’s prone form, gently brushing the woman’s long hair aside to drop a quick kiss onto her neck. She then hiked up Blair’s pajama shirt, who let out a soft noise of contentment as her fingers brushed her bare hips. Yelaine began to gently massage the other woman’s bare back, rubbing circles and kneading with her thumbs. Blair hummed with contentment as the gentle touches relieved the pressure and pain. “Is that ok?” Yelaine asked her. “It’s perfect,” Blair mumbled into the pillows. The ibuprofen had fully kicked in now, and her girlfriend’s massaging and comforting presence were making her sleepy. She closed her eyes, feeling infinitely better than she had just an hour ago. “Yelaine, come lie with me,” she said sleepily. Yelaine pressed a kiss to her forehead and obliged, settling down on the bed next to Blair and pulling the blankets over them both. Blair shifted, burying her face in Yelaine’s neck and threading their legs together. Yelaine slung an arm around Blair’s waist, pulling her closer. “Thanks for everything sweetheart, I love you,” Blair whispered into her neck. “I love you too, Blair,” Yelaine replied, stroking her hair as they both drifted off to sleep.
