To add to the 18 species we saw in the #BGBW2025 at the weekend, today I saw a woodpecker, a nuthatch and a delightful gold crest. First peeks of spring too.
Probably the windiest and wettest #BigGardenBirdwatch I can remember! Thirty birds recorded in our garden, including a stunning Jay. Gave me some time to brush up on how to age Blue Tits - it's always good to look a bit closer at the things you think you know so well #BGBW2025

That's a wrap #BGBW2025 I was right about 10 species, & I got 6 of them correct:
House Sparrow 5
Blackbird 3
Blue Tit 3
Great Tit 2
Dunnock 2
Robin 1
... but also:
Goldfinch 1, Coal Tit 2, Long-tailed Tit 4, Collared Dove 1
... but no Starling, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw or Magpie.
Now data entry
….. though for #bgbw2025 this chap clearly didn’t help nor did one of the local moggies 🐈⬛ and a squirrel 🐿️. 🧵 2/2
Rubbish photo of a blue tit and grumpy robin at the feeder for this morning's #BGBW2025

Best BGBW count ever for our 2-acre wooded garden - 19 species - a Buzzard perched in a birch and at the end a pair of Ravens swooped into one of the oaks (first ever perched in garden!).
Wood Pigeon 3
Collared Dove 3
Blackbird 6
Dunnock 2
Blue Tit 2
Coal Tit 3
Great Tit 2
Nuthatch 2

Species #10 Collared Dove #BGBW2025
We have regular visits from 6 LTTs plus NH, bullfinch, black cap, marsh tit, stock doves, a tree creeper and a wren, plus the usual crowd (R, BB, BT, GT, D, C, GF). Will report back later on what we actually see today! Oh, and last year, a Goldcrest 😊 (West Malvern wild garden) #BGBW2025
Interesting that in my head we always get siskins and redpolls in the count, but actually, while we do always get them in the garden in winter, it's 2018 that either last made the BGBW count, and redpoll only actually once - 2014 - made it.
#BGBW2025
Better than last year with 17 birds from 8 species. Still below the average of 24/9. And when compared to the 2018 peak of 50 birds from 15 species, very sad.
#BGBW2025
Unbelievably, 5 minutes after finishing our Big Garden Birdwatch count, we’ve got our first *ever* garden reed bunting! #BGBW2025
The birds are back. Great Tit #BGBW2025
House Sparrow and Dunnock. 8 species #BGBW2025
Big garden birdwatch. House Sparrow 10. Goldcrest. Wood pigeon 4. Great Tit. Chaffinch 2. Greenfinch 3. Magpie. Dunnoch. Robin. Blackbird. Coal Tit. Jackdaw 6. #bgbw2025
Am about to do the #bgbw2025. This week has produced a moment with 8 LTTits in garden - bet they won't be seen betw 11 & midday. Last week a fly-over Merlin and first Bullfinch for years - they won't be seen either, I bet.
I predict 10 species: HS, B., BT, GT, C., JD, R., MG, SG and one other?
