For mechanistic pathology, functional illnesses are “imaginary” illnesses. When the mechanistic physician cannot ascertain any alteration in the chemical composition of the blood or in the structure of the tissues, he cannot diagnose an illness, even if the patient actually dies. The functionally oriented physician, the orgone therapist, knows about the bodily function of the emotions.
