A drab brownish female Horned Lark sits on the ground in a field with a male showing more yellow on the chin. They were quite distant in a farmer's field in Tiverton. There were several dozen larks in the flock but they foraged apart from one another so I didn't see more than three at a time on the ground. Like sandpipers, they are skittish and the entire flock often takes to the wing.

I know where Horned Larks live but I rarely see them, and when I do, they remain ridiculously far away. Here are a distant female (on the left) and male (on the right). I have yet to see the damned horns.

Two cormorants stand on a small rock in the Sakonnet River. The bird on the right is nonchalant, looking left over the other. The bird on the left has its tail raised and has shot a dart of poop into the water behind it.

On an island all their own in the formerly pristine waters of the Sakonnet River. #doublecrestedcormorant #bird #birdphotography #birdpooping #birdsoftivertonri #birdsofrhodeisland

Two oystercatchers going at it. He atop she. Action took about 2 seconds, then back to dining together.

Wonder what time of year American Oystercatchers do it? It is now! This is the time of year. #americanoystercatcher #bird #birdphotography #birdsoftivertonri #seapowetbeach

Four out of seven Snow Geese, resting and grazing in a field. The front goose is immature, hence duskier than the mature geese behind.

All winter - zero Snow Geese
April fool's day - seven Snow Geese
