Altamaha Bass

Micropterus sp. cf. coosae

Caught this one 9 years ago near Athens, GA. They are very rare there now thanks to illegal stockings of Alabama Bass, which readily hybridize with this endemic form.

Spotted Bass, Micropterus punctulatus

Aka “Kentucky Spotted Bass”

Spotted Bass get a bad rap as an invasive, but within their native range are an important top predator and fun sport fish to target while fishing. #BlackBassDiversity

...Especially for species that have narrow native ranges and require intact fluvial habitats to complete their life cycles.

In these respects, black bass are a sport fish that face many of the same conservation challenges as non-game FW fish! #BlackBassDiversity
