Back from a field visit where I finally managed to photograph a chocolate albatross after years of seeing it, and well ignoring it. An incredibly common butterfly in the sub-mountainous regions of India. Their large scale mud puddling in riverbeds is a sight to behold.

A black butterfly sitting in thistles with white bands on the edges of both upper wings and yellowish-red markings on the lower side. It’s a common Mormon butterfly and its bands and markings indicate it to be a mimicking female of the Romulus subspecies. As physical attributes like colourations indicate age of the specimen, this discoloured individual is likely to be old. The female of this individual subspecies is master of mimicking another butterfly called crimson rose.

A gorgeous swallowtail from mangroves of the subcontinent. There was a well documented report of its migration from India to Sri Lanka from 2021 which was entirely a newly observed phenomena for this species.
