Japanese American sculptor Isamu Noguchi with his sculpture Kouros at the "Fourteen Americans" exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York on September 25, 1946. Kouros was created between 1944 and 1945. The sculpture is carved from pink marble and stands over nine feet tall. Its name is derived from the ancient Greek word for "boy".
