A few years ago, I came upon a fawn nestled in the grass. It looked peaceful in death. The sea was calm, the air still, and the sun intensely bright. Needle Rock cast its long shadow across the beach.

A daytime photo of a lone lighthouse, with a cloudy, overcast sky with shades of grey and daker blue. The lighthouse sits surrounded by low green grass, and there is a stand of dark green conifer trees to the right in the background. The lighthouse has a reversed "L" shape. With the tall portion of the L being the lighthouse tower that tapers slightly to it's top. The entire tower is painted white, and shows some wear to the paint, and a faint brickwork pattern under the paint. A small window is near the middle of the tower, and near the top is another small window, with another like it around to the left side, almost out of view. A small ledge encircles the tower below these small windows. Above them is an encircling railing around the lighthouse lamp room and it's clear glass windows encircling the unlit lamp in it's center. The top of the lighthouse tower is capped with a red painted metal circular roof, and red ball atop it, and a lightening rod. The roof is largely obscured from the low angle of the photo. The short base of the L shape facing left from the tower, is a small red tiled roof building with two small windows in the white wall facing the camera. Just to the left of the main building is a small red tile roofed enclosed entryway with white paint for the exterior facing the camera, and a green facing the camera. The entire structure has a dark blue-grey painted foundation that meets the surrounding green grass.

Sun Halo, Needle Rock, Cape Blanco, Oregon
Needle Rock, backlit by the midday sun, appeared imposing against the soft, haloed light. Sun halos, while uncommon, refract sunlight to create a bright circle around the sun.
