Looking back at Catacomb 3D, the game that led to Wolfenstein 3D | #PCGaming #Catacomb3d #idsoftware | arstechnica.com/gaming/2026/...
By this point in time, you have probably heard most you ever wanted to know about Doom or Quake (not that there's ever enough).
So now, listen to @johnromero.bsky.social and @thattomhall.bsky.social talk about the fascinating history of #Catacomb3D

Not the same game, but this is a new addition to my computer room. #Catacomb3D

An art about Peter who invades WD's fortress to destroy everyone who is part of S.O.W.D.
WD: You can come if you dare! ha, ha, ha!

MOP, this is a red helmeted enemy that is part of S.O.W.D and he is a ridiculous enemy and is also added to the Peter Dreimour Special.
And yes, he is a clone of Met from the Mega Man series.

I even removed the Minimap and left the emerald keeper there, and the cute Peter there and the textures already working in a very simple way on the walls.

I'm working on the Peter Dreimour Special, and the 3D is working in a very simple way, without having some textures on the walls.

Ending screen from "Catacomb 3D": An older man dressed in green with a face covered in orange slime. The caption reads: "Hi, I'm Grelminar. Do you have a towel?"
Finished #Catacomb3D
Thanks again @catacombgl.bsky.social for that source port! I'm going to check out the other Catacomb titles eventually.
Screenshot of "Catacomb 3D": The player throws fireballs at two green trolls in a slime-splattered stone hallway.
Given the time it was made, #Catacomb3D is surprisingly versatile.
Not exactly deep, but the spirit of what would become #Wolfenstein3D and eventually #Doom shines through.
Yet, I'm also glad for the source port. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.
