Wijngaard Slavante, in my home city of Maastricht, is one of the oldest vineyards in the Netherlands (1967) and at the same time one of the smallest: 200 vines are planted on a natural terrace with a magnificent view over the River Meuse.

This is the façade stone at the rear of World’s Smallest Chocolate Factory. The back door opens into the interior of our home. Surrounding the stone are the traditional field kiln-fired bricks which help define the character of our house, both inside and out.

The vineyard 'Domaine Backerbosch' is one of the oldest vineyards in the Netherlands. The photo was taken facing west, and part of a marlstone station house is visible.

The Riesenberg wine estate is near Gronsveld. The photo shows the entrance to the vineyard: a metal gate with a logo incorporated into it, with the vineyard in the background.

These are the vineyards on the east side of Maastricht in the Maas Valley. Every year, they are improving, expanding, and becoming more professional. The terroir is excellent, consisting mainly of loess on pebble-rich soils or limestone.
