A new species of microscopic #ciliate, ππ―π΅π¦π©π°ππ°π΄π΅πͺπ€π©π’ π―π’π―π«πͺπ¦π―π΄πͺπ΄, has recently been discovered along a sandy #beach in Wenzhou, China.

Oscillatoria is a filamentous cyanobacteria that glides (motile) It forms dark floating scum
Scooping scum out of a ditch is fun! It looks like a sewer has discharged and fecal matter floats, but it's not. It's mostly #cyanobacteria and full of life. The big #ciliate has ingested #Oscillatoria #microscope

To understand what was even going on, I took another video at 4x slow motion and a different imaging technique (phase contrast).
Now the small moving hairs become visible. This imaging mode also reveals all the small organelles inside of the #ciliate.
Next up is a #Ciliate. These one-celled organisms are covered in small hairs that they use to move around.
Also, this thing was zooming, I had a hard time to keep up with it!
A rigid heddle for weaving that is woodburnt to resemble a ciliate. A thin multicolored band is being woven on it.
I made this heddle back in 2023 at the height of my ciliate obsession and it hasnβt seen a ton of use yet! I got a sweatshirt at a clothing swap that is missing a hoodie string, so I figured a super thin band would work well as a replacement :)
