Rubacha described her vision for a basic income guarantee: I believe a basic income would provide the groundwork for a cultural renaissance, and maybe even a civic renaissance. Imagine what artists could do if they did not have to live hand-to-mouth! And imagine what all people living with low incomes could do if they had more time and mental space to devote to reaching their full potential. A basic income that provides a solid income floor could change the fabric of our society in countless ways. I think it frees up people to have the time to really think about social problems and fight against them and make the world that they want to be in. I think it’s a huge opportunity… across the board, not just [for] artists. Anyone fighting for anything, you have more time to do that, you have more energy to do that, you have the mental space to think about something other than just surviving all the time.
Just finished reading my advanced copy of the "Artists on Basic Income: Beyond Precarious Livelihoods" report that's launching next week.
Feeling proud of my contributions and thought I'd share some of my words that were included in the document.
