A pompous heroic girl, without either wit or humour, but fancies herself clever without any person acquiescing with her whomsoever. She is of the red-haired kind and very vicious, too fond of the male kind for her business, which is the cause of her not succeeding as she should do. Her person is extremely well made, good eyes, fair skin, and incomparable fine hair; never so happy as when in bed with a pretty fellow, altho' the gets nothing by him—like the giddy girl, thinks of nothing but the present, leaving all future events to chance. About Her: Mrs Harrison: ‘Mrs’ seems at odds with her behaviour and status, it is unknown whether she is married but it is unlikely that ‘Mrs’ is used as a sign of respect or age in Mrs Harrison’s case. Broke: Her type is penniless, and her finances reflect that. Harris notes that she once rejected an elderly man who offered her five guineas (£970) for a young man with less than a sixpence. Her age and background are unknown, although frequent references to her being a girl indicates she is likely quite young possibly between 19 and 23 years old. She believes she is clever but is described by Harris as ‘without wit or humour’ and doesn’t seem to think beyond the moment or the night. She is redheaded with a vicious temper.
Her Surroundings: Shoemakers Shop, Cleveland Street: Finding this particular shoemaker has proved extremely difficult. Mrs Harrison’s entry states her as living next door the shoemaker’s shop at the junction of Cleveland Street and ‘New Moulton Street’, but as any map will show, these two streets are nowhere near one another. Even when looking for variations of these two street names there is no particular road, mews, court or street that fits the aforementioned junction. Even within Cleveland Street, there is no recorded shoemakers, although there is a shoemaker on Tottenham Court Road who owned property on Cleveland Street at number 11 Cambridge Place in 1810. The most notable structure in Cleveland Street was the workhouse built in 1778 which underwent many changes over time moving from workhouse to infirmary to the outpatients department of Middlesex Hospital which eventually closed in 2005.
