#Copyeditors: Do you not routinely edit "ironic" quotation marks?
My reasons for being opposed are: 1) The word you actually want to use is out there, and it usually takes mere seconds to think of it. 2) Quotation marks have so many purposes that readers can't always discern why you're using them.
