Cosplay Lore Part II- Reflections of an Elder Cosplayer
Aging As the great Lady Amalthea once said: “I can feel this body dying”. Chances are if you know this reference your back hurts… and you might remember parts (or all) of these little snippets of lore from the cosplay community in the 2010’s. I continue to hope these are fun to read about for those who were there and those who weren’t but are curious!
There can only be one Have you ever seen Highlander? Don’t. But remember that weird disgruntlement people in community held for a while about people cosplaying the same character as you? Of course this still happens, but it felt like for a while there was a toxic belief that you can and should be the ONLY Ciel at the con.
Gay awakening I mean obviously this still happens, but who else found their gay awakening through cosplaying a yaoi couple with your best friend who you also liked to kiss but it was just for cosplay and we aren’t gay… until you realize you totally are. I think the space cosplay creates to permit exploration of sexuality and gender continues to be such a wonderful part of it.
