A different university and a promotion with more responsibilities #CPChatNow
Goodnight #CPChatNow! Thanks for the great conversation tonight.
Also, a big one is I feel CP has made me a more empathetic person. I know how important representation is and I understand why people feel the need to see themselves represented in media. #CPChatNow
I had PT and speech therapy as a child. I know the PT was for the cerebral palsy, but the speech therapy also shaped my personality because I learned exacting pronunciation. #CPChatNow
How different is the job from your previous one? #CPChatNow
A second example would be the years of physical therapy I had as a kid I feel helped shape my work ethic and I only had PT because of my cerebral palsy. #CPChatNow
So far it has been. Seems like a great team #CPChatNow
Is it a good adjustment? Change isn’t fun, but when you grow stagnant you miss out on a lot of great opportunities. #CPChatNow
Great question Stephen! I would say cerebral palsy has influenced my personality. For example, I feel CP has helped me be more patient (byproduct of being naturally slower). #CPChatNow
Started my new job this week. It has been a big adjustment after being in one place for 17 years #CPChatNow
Then that sounds like the doctor had a stereotypical view of what a disability looks like and couldn't handle you shattering that vision. #CPChatNow
Yes, I think so. We definitely would be different people without a disability. #CPChatNow
Question does cerebral palsy affect your personality #cpchatnow
I was a stay-at-home mom raising two children alone for a majority portion of the day since dad worked. Not only was I very independent I had 2 small creatures who depended on me. #CPChatNow
Part of that too comes with relying on my brother for rides to the grocery store and the commute home from work. Again though, these were issues I independently brought up to Nick prior to moving in together. We established expectations ahead of time. That's a form of independence. #CPChatNow
No it was my meet the surgeon appointment before surgery. I was fine. After surgery they wheel you out. Once the nurse checks you out, they’re the ones who help you go out to your waiting family member. #CPChatNow
I know I've been flirting with imposter syndrome saying I live on my own, although I rent from and live with my brother. I remind myself a lot of people live with roommates and such. #CPChatNow
Did you need the help? Having cataract surgery has to be a disorientating experience. #CPChatNow
Sometimes yes. But the surgeries and the leg braces and being ostracized as a kid. It happened more so when I got older and felt more comfortable in my own skin. Which is weird because you think that would stop the imposter syndrome. #CPChatNow
Damn typos! I was thinking about this the other day with regards to having a mild case of cerebral palsy. Do you almost feel a level of imposter syndrome? Like, you are not disabled enough to be in the disabled category? #CPChatNow
Okay that should be hear. 🤦♀️ #CPChatNow
I think part of the problem with me is my CP is very mild and the doctors may not realize I’m disabled until I bring up a problem. They probably think severe physical disability when they here CP #CPChatNow
In some ways I feel we are all dependent on someone. Whether an employer to pay us, grocery store workers stocking the shelves, or construction workers maintaining roads. I know that our level of dependence might be a bit more, but again we all depend on someone in some way. #CPChatNow
The surgeon who did my first cataract surgery was amazed I didn’t have a mobility aid and then insisted on helping me walk back out to the waiting room. #CPChatNow
The most bizarre for me was what I shared about my doctor asking if my toe separator was the orthotic I mentioned earlier in our appointment. Like you though, I've been rather fortunate. My doctors might not be CP experts, but they know adults can have CP. #CPChatNow
My primary asking me if the handicap placard was really for me. But I did start by saying, my husband wanted me to ask about getting a handicap placard. I really don’t like feeling dependent and invalid though. #CPChatNow
I’m drawing a blank to be honest. I guess I’ve been lucky #CPChatNow
QUESTION: What is the most bizarre comment you have had a medical professional say to you regarding your CP? #CPChatNow
I've never had a doctor who has flat out been unaware adults can have CP. The closest I came was asking my doctor about an orthotic recommendation and when he saw my toe separators, asking if that's the orthotic I was referencing. #CPChatNow
You could say the question spoiled the ability for you to relish victory. #CPChatNow
