Perhaps in the choice the fire devil is offering, Asa is the “cat” and the choice is between saving her, or saving humanity. The Fire Devil seems intent on teaching Denji some sort of truth about how he should logically weigh the value of the lives he chooses to save or not to save.

Fire Devil claims that it was born and raised by two kind-hearted twins. One of which it claims that Denji indirectly killed. Such that it's sole purpose is to get Justice against Denji.

Asa is themed to cats, so I get the feeling Fire Devil DOESN'T want Denji to save Asa, like he did with saving the cat.
My best guess is that Denji's heroism will be put into question by having to choose between a TON of people about to be killed by Falling, or Asa
