@durotrigesdig.bsky.social - this is doubtless the start of a petition that #CuratorRob should be the next Dr Who.
Presumably we can rely on your support.
A ridiculously happy-looking woman wearing an orange top and safety glasses. In her hand on the left she's holding a chunk of glass that has been melted and since solidified. In the other hand is the crucible from which it has just been removed.
A disturbing-looking character wearing a red check shirt and with hair in all the wrong places sharpening an axe in front of a replica roman glass furnace, with another axe by his side.
DAY FIVE! The last day of #Glass-tonbury, our project to make Roman window glass.
Yesterday ended badly, with a failure to gather molten glass from our crucible.
Today started with Kim delighted at the solidified glass from yesterday, while #CuratorRob sharpened his axes. Which is normal. ๐ฌ
It's modern.
We asked #CuratorRob if we could melt some of the Roman glass from the Palace and he used words that we have never heard before. ๐ณ
Happy to turn it into a hot tub, but if you want bubbles you'll have to share it with #CuratorRob. ๐ฌ๐จ
A bearded fool, holding the cutest little black lamb you ever did see.
Back tomorrow for another try. ๐ค
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped today (especially Hannah who literally chopped a tonne of wood ๐คฉ).
But not to #CuratorRob, who spent all day flirting with the locals.
An epic day experimenting with glass @butserancientfarm.co.uk A fab PhD project led by Kim Devereux-West @durham.ac.uk with @romanpalace.bsky.social Huge thanks to @chrischivers.bsky.social & co who ensured the furnace survived over winter! Some odd people showed up to help! #CuratorRob ๐
@experimentalkearns.bsky.social - do you know the answer? We asked #CuratorRob, but he's too busy watching his boxset of the Teletubbies to be of any use.
To the left, in the background, a replica roman glass furnace sprewing flames. To the right, in the foreground, an absolute pillock wearing a face visor under which he has tucked his ridiculous beard in a manner that doesn't make anyone look clever or good.
PS - We have been inundated with messages from concerned followers, concerned that with all that fire around, #CuratorRob 's beard might be harmed.
Don't worry folks. We got that covered. ๐
Exposed hair isn't something #CuratorRob needs to worry about (from the eyes up, at least).
It was knowing #CuratorRob would be there and that the furnace action would be at floor level which brought to mind the image... Can't beat a good risk assessment which covers all eventualities including exposed hair and appropriate footwear. Much looking forward to the video of the event. :)
We have read the ELEVEN PAGE risk assessment. Short trousers are banned. Which is just as well, given that #CuratorRob will be there. ๐ซฃ
#curatorrob brings joy every day! ๐
Ditto.
#CuratorRob
They do sound nice.
Do you think they would be willing to take responsibility for #CuratorRob 's bar tab?
a) see below
b) #CuratorRob
#CuratorRob will be there shortly with a miniature catapult.
So pot is "more important" than bone, slag etc.? ๐ฎ What if the zooarch wants all the cat bones? The same would apply. Ditto CBM of a particular fabric.
Our researchers need access to hundreds of boxes at once as well as the knowledge of the paper archive that only #CuratorRob can provide.
Will #curatorrob be dying his hair red?
#CuratorRob is dusting off his CV as we type.
We do! And we have proof with this video which includes @derekpitman.bsky.social as a child and #CuratorRob wearing a jacket that he couldn't hope to squeeze into these days.

(CBM starts at about 6:15 mins)
We don't know why we did this, but now we wish we hadn't.
#CuratorRob
#CuratorRob used to live in Clapham South and had no idea about all of this. ๐
I think we'll have to ask #CuratorRob!
so posh I would even go so far as to assert it would be quite shellfish of @romanpalace.bsky.social to not allow #CuratorRob to gallivant around in the lobster hat always and forever ๐ฆ
Really have to insist on a #CuratorRob themed calendar. Just because you lot get to stare at him all day long doesn't mean the rest of us can't share in the entertainment.
The head and shoulders of a buffoon against a blue background. The buffoon has a ludicrous beard, and is wearing a tall orange hat with small black eyes on the top that resembles a prawn.
We sent #CuratorRob to a professional Networking event at the Novium Museum, Chichester, yesterday and he represented the Palace by wearing a prawn hat. ๐คฆ
We could certainly invite him, but we'd have to give him a name badge so we don't confuse him with #CuratorRob.
This was the winner in our #CuratorRob in the Hypocaust lookalike contest.
Rumour is that he secretly entered and came twelfth, but that has never been verified.
Does this mean #CuratorRob will come and do a talk at my place?
