Yockenthwaite Moor, 2110’, is a renowned bog fest. Today, then, that rarity, a fully dry ascent of this little visited mountain from Yockenthwaite Farm. Not much to see up top with the cloud. Inevitably, the heat of the day was clearing the cloud by the time we were back to the car.

12/03/25 - Birks Fell (2,001’) from Litton. Cold day with some sunny intervals but with a N wind at 15/16 knotts propelling some cheeky wintry showers of hail. Wonderfully dry underfoot for this time of year.

Couldn’t ignore a decent forecast, so away to Kettlewell for a circular tour of Great Whernside, 2,309 feet.

Up via Hag Dyke, then descending via Park Rash and Top Mere.

Wet underfoot with hard snow patches in the dips and gullies. Poles a great help.

Lots of blue sky but cold up top. 🥶

Yarlside (2,096’) and Randygill Top (2,047’) from Cross Keys.

Strong NE wind up top but lots of lovely winter light to compensate.

Buckden Pike (2303’)

From Buckden village up to the Pike, then the descent to Starbotton and back along the River Wharfe.

Bluebird day, frosty, cold in parts, mostly firm underfoot.

Fountains Fell (2192’) and Darnbrook Fell (2047)

A loop from a parking spot close to Darnbrook farm.

A dry and windy day. Wet underfoot out to Darnbrook Fell.

The pest erosion on DF is huge. The trig plinth is exposed and the pillar perched up in the air.

Didn’t see another soul.

Without any time schedule in mind, Alison and I are on with a project to climb them all, despite many prior visits to some of the mountains. I’ll do some posts to record those done. #Dales30
