Looking down from the road into the creek bed of Democrat Creek. The plants along the creek are lush, with clumps of willow following the line of the creek, and purple penstemon flowers interspersed through the lush grass. In the background, the folds of green mountains lead the eyes upward to the bright blue sky above them.

The bright orange, five-petaled flowers of globe mallow glow in the afternoon sunlight. The fuzzy, sage colored leaves face into the sun, and a blade of grass pokes up under one leaf. The background is reddish brown rocky soil.

A mother moose and her large calf make their way down the side of a hill, heading towards Democrat Creek. The mother is watchful and wary, so we turned around and went back the way we came, so as not to disturb them. The hillside is covered with sagebrush, and wildflowers, and is still green from recent rains.

From today’s hike with my best friend of almost 50 years! So fun to show her where I live. 😊🏔️
