Yesterday afternoon, three officers from Seattle Police Department targeted LGBTQ+ patrons at Denny Blaine Park. This comes on the heels of Jason Rantz' appearance on Fox News' The Ingraham Angle, where Denny Blaine was discussed. SPD told people they had to get dressed, and trespassed a trans woman who was lying on their stomach. When they refused to get dressed as instructed, police banned them from the park for a week. Public nudity is not illegal in Seattle, and Denny Blaine has long been a safe place for LGBTQ+ people to gather and express themselves freely. That residents in the area, and the Seattle Police Department find this objectionable, and feel the need to harass queer people, doesn’t change the law. The Executive Board of the 43rd District Democrats condemn SPD for their blatant harassment of Seattle’s queer community, and call on our elected officials to do the same.
