There’s a gritty sound
a bike tire makes when
it #descends
on a crushed gravel trail.
Paths harder than brown sugar and
crunchier than graham cracker crumbs.
But I remember it
and the freedom found
on hot summer days
when a ride created
the only breeze for miles.
When sweat was sweet.

Jumbled thoughts, an emotional racket wreaking internal havoc. Exhilaration extends, #descends into exhaustion. I pick up a pen, the steel tip taps,
black ink bleeds, plastic cracks. Steering the madness I contain it, restrain it, until its safely harboured on a pure white page.

I can only watch as the realm #descends into madness. The inevitable collision with the metaphoric iceberg we can all see yet most of my fellow countrymen refuse to acknowledge.
Most bleak is not the willful choosing of this trajectory, but the gleeful celebration of it.
